CURRICULUM

Academically, the school's priority is to provide the highest quality education in balance with a happy school environment to enable every child to achieve his/her full potential. The emphasis is on the development of an enquiring mind and an imaginative approach to all subjects across the curriculum

The syllabus extends well beyond the National Curriculum core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science, whilst catering for a wide range of abilities, and includes History, Geography, Art, Design and Technology, ICT, PE, Sport, Music, Dance, Drama, French, Latin and PSHE. The facilities, including an outstanding ICT centre, provide comprehensive support for the breadth of education that Herries offers to all its pupils.

But the real heart of Herries success lies with the committed, caring teachers who combine traditional teaching methods with the best of progressive ideas within a high teacher-pupil ratio.

To enhance the curriculum, pupils have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of off site visits. These include museums, art galleries, theatre trips, science and environmental study days.

In addition to this a variety of speakers and performers are invited into the school to provide subject based activity days.

DAVID SHEPHERD ART FOR SURVIVAL COMPETITION

For the second year running, all children from the age of 8 upwards were given the opportunity to enter the Art for Survival Competition which was run in conjunction with the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation. Again the children did very well with 11 children being invited to attend the prize giving ceremony at the National History Museum, London. One of our pupils came 1st in the 8 year old category and another came 3rd in the 10 year olds which was a remarkable result. All of the finalists had their work displayed in the museum; had a chance to meet the judge, David Shepherd, celebrity wildlife supporter, Gary Lineker and listened to an inspirational talk by wildlife reporter Saba Douglas Hamilton.
